By high school, I was attending Pasadena Art Center College of Design every weekend on a scholarship, studying still life and figure drawing and painting. I went on to attend Brigham Young University, receiving a BFA in Painting and Sculpture in ’95.

In the years since, my husband and I have been raising and homeschooling our six children in an “art house.” No creative opportunity is off limits to them. Early on and with my littles around me, I began doing commissioned portraits, illustrations and murals from our little apartment. I then undertook a serious two year study of wheel thrown pottery under Master Potter Wayne Reynolds, apprentice to Bauhaus alumna Marguerite Wildenhain at Pond Farm.

I have taught art lessons, community classes, and done online instruction and mentorships. On occasion I have shown in local galleries and participated in community art events. For eight years while living in Sacramento, I hosted an annual Open Studio and Christmas boutique, inviting several other artisans to join me. During the month of November I would convert my studio and part of my home into a large gallery, and was blessed to sell hundreds of pieces of my own pottery, paintings, textiles and jewelry.

For the last two years I have been focusing on improving my craftsmanship, and regularly showing my art in galleries in Sacramento and Amador Counties. I have participated regularly in shows at the Kennedy Gallery in Sacramento, and I am working to build an online presence, doing direct sales and providing mentorship opportunities to women who have set their creative passions aside to raise a family. I now look forward to opportunities to network and participate in the Amador art community with other local artists.
