Kirk Neiberger is a retired trial lawyer after 37 years of litigation practice, who has reconnected with his second love, creating art through his pen and ink drawings. Purely for fun, he decided to brand himself as the “Inkist.” He currently resides in the historic gold rush town of Sutter Creek, Ca.
As a boy, Kirk fell in love with small etchings due to their characteristically small size and fine detail. However, he could not afford all the necessary supplies needed for this specialized medium. Therefore, Kirk defaulted to pen and ink drawings as the next best thing, choosing to work within the small confines of 5” x 7” drawing paper.
After retirement, Kirk began drawing again as his new hobby just for fun and to fill the void left by leaving the practice of law. Multiple people who saw his work encouraged him to display his original drawings in local galleries. He wasn’t sure at first, that this was something he wanted to do. However, upon reflection, Kirk decided that getting his artwork out into the world would be an excellent legacy for him to leave behind. So, he embarked on his artistic journey, first starting with Sutter Creek Gallery in Sutter Creek and then to Gold Country Artists Gallery in Placerville, Ca. and eventually opening his own Esty Shop on the internet. Kirk’s drawings are now in 24 States, 4 countries and 4 continents. His goal is to someday have his drawings in ALL 50 states.
Almost all of his drawings are from photos, which he personally took on his iPhone both at home and abroad during what he calls his “photo safaris.” However, if he comes across a photograph taken by someone else that he finds inspiring, then pen and brush to paper will soon occur. He particularly loves to interpret local images and scenes, both historical and common place. However, the world is his oyster and he’s perfectly happy to take it all on, one image at a time.
