Sandra Campbell, a former teacher of English who enjoyed incorporating art into the curriculum, began studying art once she retired. Following a number of classes in drawing and other media, she concentrated on pastel painting for three years with master pastelist Thelma Davis. Later she attended workshops with other recognized artists as well as taking art classes at local colleges.

After a time, Sandra branched out into collage and multimedia in addition to pastels. Subjects include landscapes, florals, still life and animals. Some artworks are inspired by photos taken during her travels. Most recently, she’s explored the use of acrylics for abstracts and monoprints. She belongs to a painting group which meets twice monthly to paint, critique and support one another. Sandra is also a member of the Amador County Artists Association through which she has participated in local art shows. Currently, she teaches a series of adult collage classes sponsored by the Amador County Arts Council.

“I love color and experimentation. A class in collage and assemblage sent me off in new directions. Creating abstract works is a complete departure for someone who used to produce only realistic art. And even with representational work, I like to punch up the colors. Amador County is alive with artists who inspire me and support my efforts. It’s a wonderful place to be an artist.”
